Looking back on the good times with friends in 2011 I’ve realized what an amazing year it was. Just a few priceless faces from the end of the year. C’mon 2012, you’ve got some big shoes to fill.
Zink Magazine - A few out-takes and behind the scenes shots from the ‘My Crowd’ editorial I shot for Zink Magazine out later this month. The idea was to take local taste-makers here in NYC (djs, bloggers, artists, models, directors, actors, LES socialites, etc…) and shoot them all at a New Years party together. …So obviously I just had a party at my studio and invited all 35 of them over. Actually we had to stagger them in two groups because my studio just can’t handle 35 people for very long. I think it was hardest on the styling team and my assistants who had to maneuver lights and equipment in a cramped space. But a photographer expected to create that type vibe, I’ve gotta say, if it were much less crowded in the studio, it would have been more difficult to keep the energy going. We had a little overlap for an hour in the afternoon so we could get some images of everyone going ape-shit together and what da’ya know, it worked. Don’t think my neighbors were too happy that night though.
Thanks to Ni’ma Ford extraordinaire and her styling/production/everything else team; would never have managed without you : )
PDN Magazine - Just found out I won Photo District News’ best portrait of an artist contest for an image I shot of Kesha.I wanted to present her without her masked stage persona, just as the beautiful young woman that she is.
Totally had my little Vanilla Ice running-man moment in the living-room, go Marco go Marco go Marco, go, go, go.
Coney Island Mermaid Parade - It’s Freezing in NYC and I’m feeling nostalgic for all the good times this past summer. Definitely a good one : )
Hometown Venice Love - Got to sneak down to LA before heading back to NYC. Had to get a little hometown Venice Beach love. Plus me passed the hell out on my 6:30am flight back to New York, there could have been a screaming baby sitting next to me and I doubt I would have noticed.
San Francisco Love - Whether you’d drive it or not is beside the point, this is some serious effort.
The best part about working with your friends is that they’re already there when the shoot ends.
Jesse Boykins - The man, the myth, the musician. I love total individuals, especially when everything about them from their personality to their style to their art is totally different yet well assembled. I met him on the street yesterday near my studio and snapped a few shots, gotta lovea walk in the Bowery. Check out his funky, soulful electro-ballads @ jbiiimusic.com.
NYC, The Everyday Iconic - Was out with my camera scouting for a shoot. Why New York? Because every corner is a photographic gem.
